Danny seemed at a loss for words. "I don't think I should answer that question," he finally answered, "Because either way I go, I lose." Halna laughed and sipped her glass. "And, yes, that was the time. But Danny was the one that hid the haul." She cleared her throat in embarrassment.

Jhase smiled. "Of course. My mistake. That was another time-" The implication of Halna's slight cough sank in, and Jhase covered the rest of her sentence with a sip of her own drink. Recovering, she continued, addressing Paddie again. "And why would you lose by admitting you can cook?" She raised an eyebrow. "That's quite an accomplishment, and I'm sure many women would find it an attractive trait." Her gaze flicked to Halna for a moment, wondering how she would react to the leading comment.

Halna glared at Jhase over the rim of her glass. Apparently she's more attuned to her feminine side than I'd counted on. she thought warily. Danny hesitated, for once catching the innuendos being tossed about by the two women. "That may be so. But you didn't ask if I could cook. You asked if I was domesticated. Which is a whole 'nother thing in itself," he replied with a grin.

Jhase laughed and raised her glass to him. "Point to you. I did." She debated on whether or not to ignore Halna's glare, and decided that as long as she quit making remarks like that... And her friend's reaction was certainly enough to confirm her suspicions. It was harder to tell if her feelings were reciprocated, however... Paddie's casual arm around Halna's shoulders could be devoid of anything deeper than casual flirtation from a rich senator's brat. Jhase, however, was sure there was more to him than that, especially if he was mixed up with someone like Kandarr... She was still convinced he knew something, and regretted again leaving her armor at Halna's apartment. Kind words only got you so far, and it was amazing how much of a memory stimulant even the sight of a vibroblade could be. Not that she could try anything with Halna so near... Still, there was time. She took another sip, enjoying the unfamiliar taste. "So then, Mr Paddie, can you cook?"

"Yes, I can cook. Which is good since I spend so much time with Halna," Danny joked. She good-naturedly stuck her tongue out at him, forgetting for the moment her slight annoyance with Jhase. "How about you, Jhase? Can you cook?" she jested at her friend, a small smirk gracing her features. She wondered how much longer Jhase would be able to keep it polite.

Jhase raised an eyebrow at her friend. "I'm no Alderaanian chef, but I'm better than you. Passably well, we'll say, but it's not my idea of a good time." She sat back in her seat, stretching out her legs and crossing her ankles, curbing her impatience. Don't get in a hurry. She could almost hear Ijaat'buir's voice. You get impatient and you make mistakes. Too many mistakes and you don't get the chance to make any more. As little patience as she had for playing at social niceties, it was better to sit through them than risk Halna's ire. Jhase didn't know how dangerous Paddie could be, but Halna was nearly as sharp as she was. If only there was some way for her to get Paddie alone...

"I've had one or two kitchen experiments go well. There was that pasta dinner..." Halna reminded Danny lightly. She knew Jhase was uncomfortable interrogating Danny with her around. She also knew she was uncomfortable leaving the two alone. Not for any romantic reason, just practicality. But they were never going to get away from the opera if she didn't give Jhase enough time to get some information out of Danny. Of course, this was information she wasn't sure she wanted Jhase to have. So she gently rested her hand on Danny's upper arm and tapped out a short message with her finger. 'stick to the playboy story, whatever you do.' "If you two will excuse me, I think I'd like to freshen up a bit," she said. "You just want to get away from the opera," Danny accused her, grinning. She nodded, but didn't give him any other reply, besides an affectionate-and warning-hand on his shoulder as she stood.

Jhase, knowing Halna's familiarity with her methods, was fairly certain that her friend was just making excuses, but was grateful nonetheless. Waiting until Halna had completely left the box, she twisted in her seat to focus her full attention on Paddie. Dropping all preliminaries, she said flatly, "I know you know Kandarr and aren't telling me what you know. Let's make life easier for both of us and tell me already, OK? And just a warning..." A small vibroblade appeared in her hand. "I'm not afraid of making scenes. I don't mind making entire kriffing musical productions to get what I'm after. Just so you know."

Now he knew why Halna had 'left' him that message. He held his hands up in defense. "Miss Mereel, I don't know the Kandarr you're talking about. If he's a smuggler, then why don't you wave the vibroblade around in his face, cause he's the only guy I know with that name," Danny said, stabbing a finger in the playboy's direction. He suddenly realized he'd used her real last name by accident when she hadn't told it to me, and flushed slightly.

Jhase curled her lip. "Don't get cute with me. It doesn't work." Suddenly, exactly what he had said sunk in. She narrowed her eyes. "What did you call me?" How had he known- Halna hadn't mentioned it tonight, she was certain, but that didn't mean she couldn't have before... And the man was a fairly good actor, as proved by his cover story. She stared at him, her tone quietly menacing. "You're in over your head, Mr Paddie. Better get out before you drown yourself."

Danny shook his head to clear it. "Sorry, I saw a holo of you in one of Halna's old albums and I remembered the name, that's all," he explained, "As for being in over my head, I hate to sound rude, but you don't know what you're talking about. I was practically born into this 'wrong side of the tracks' kind of world. There's a reason I don't look anything like my father." He calmly took a sip from his drink, trying not to let the vibroblade in her hand worry him.
