Halna took a deep breath and then let it slowly. "You'd have to talk to Da-Mr. Paddie himself. I am... acquainted with the man, but I wouldn't want to speak for him. It isn't my exactly my job as Queen to get my subjects hanged. If they do get hanged, I'd like to be the one doing it. At least then I know what they confessed before they died." Halna did her best to keep her galactic underworld-renowned cool, but inside she was panicking. What if someone found out about Danny's connections to her? What if she ruined his father's career? Would he ever speak to her again? And just when he was becoming so important to her?
OOC: If you wouldn't mind helping me spread the word, I REALLY need a Danny!

Jhase nodded, face serious but suspecting that perhaps her old friend was not telling the entire story. "Of course. I would expect no less. So you can contact him for me, tell him I need to meet with him? You're welcome to join us, of course."
OOC: Yeah, I'll mention it on my forum.

Halna swallowed, trying to decide what to do. Finally she nodded. "All right. I'll contact him. But I definitely want to be at this little get together. I'd be horribly hurt if I were left out." She tried to infuse her usual sarcasm into the reply, but wasn't sure how she came across, as she was itching to call Danny.

Jhase almost smiled, remembering Halna's biting wit. "Of course," she said dryly. "I wouldn't dream of offending you." She fished a small piece of flimsi out of a belt pouch and scrawled a number on it, sliding it across the table. "There. Secure comm channel that you can reach me on when you get hold of Paddie. It's local and untraceable, just so you know," she added, years of instinct keeping her still mistrustful of her ex-friend.

"Glad to hear there's some semblance of loyalty left in this galaxy," Halna shot back, equally dry. She quickly scanned the number and nodded. "I definitely wouldn't expect anything less from you, Jhase. You always were the most efficient bounty hunter I'd ever met. And believe you me, I've met a few in my time. Of course, I've put a blaster bolt through most of their hearts, but Mother always said I'd be a heartbreaker," she shrugged.

Jhase, eyes half-lidded, inclined her head as if accepting an accolade. "Why, thank you. I do try," she said, continuing the banter. Almost as if nothing's changed, she thought, then quickly deflected the thought. But no. No use in dwelling on the past, as Dad always said. "I suppose I'm lucky that I'm not one of your victims then, O Queen of hearts and diamonds." She took a deep draft of ale, but the bitter taste somehow wasn't as enjoyable as it had been at the beginning of her evening.

"Hearts and diamonds... I like that. Some of my subjects seem to forget I'm a woman sometimes. Maybe I ought to add that to my title," Miss Louvellu commented ruefully. It's almost as if nothing's changed, she thought to herself and gave a mental sigh. It's no use though. We can never have that trust again, I suppose...

Jhase raised an eyebrow. "What, just plain 'Queen of Thieves' not glamorous enough? And as for forgetting you're a woman, that's not always a bad thing. Males of any species have trouble respecting a female at times, even if she has a blaster to their head. I can think of a few that if the contract hadn't specified 'alive'... But what can this mean?" A slow smile stole across her lips. "Can the famous Queen be thinking of taking a consort?"

"Oh, nothing's ever good enough for royalty," the Queen winked, took a sip of her drink, and glanced around the crowded nightclub, "I don't think it's that they don't respect us; just that they have trouble seeing us for what we are. They see an hourglass figure and a pretty face and immediately start booking hotel rooms..." She glowers venomously at a nearby patron who appears to be checking her out. His eyes widen and he scurries away. "Wait. A consort? You don't mean Paddie? And certainly not you?"

Jhase nearly choked on her drink. "No!" she sputtered. "Force, no. I was just... Seems like you used to not care about that kind of thing, unless it interfered with a job." Her shock at the ridiculous suggestion ebbing, she switched back to irony, her impenetrable mask. "Your endearing pragmatism was one of the reasons I bothered to really get to know you."

Halna blinked, processing Jhase's words. "I guess I've gotten a bit soft, huh? That I would think about it..." Suddenly she shook her head as if to clear her thoughts. "Wait, what am I talking about?! I wasn't thinking about it! You were!" she sighed in exasperation and stared at her old friend. "Don't mess with me like that, Jhase!"

Jhase raised her eyebrow again. So she was Jhase again, was she? All right, two could play that game... "Methinks the lady protests too much," she said quietly, the barest hint of a smile playing about her lips. "You're getting soft in your old age. Halna."

Halna grimaced at the comment, "Don't let it get out. I'll have challengers breathing down my neck for the first time in years." She rolled her eyes. "They honestly think they can take me down with veiled threats and empty blasters. It's a bit insulting, actually." She chose to ignore Mereel's use of her first name, as she had used 'Jhase,' knowing it was most likely just to stir up old trouble...

Jhase quirked an eyebrow. "Veiled threats? Please. What do they think you are, a Nemoidian? You'll never be that soft." She shook her head pityingly. "I am sorry for you. If you'd like any... help... dealing with these 'challengers', I'll give you a discount, just for old times' sake. I believe it's still fairly well known that Mandalorians don't make threats, only promises."

Halna smirked ruefully, knowing Jhase's distinct distaste for Neimodians. "I don't want your pity. But your help might be kind of nice. Usually I wouldn't stoop so low as to call in a bounty hunter," she grinned playfully, "but there's this one petty thief that won't leave me alone. I don't want to insult him by not accepting his challenge, but he's only a little tyke. Not more than 12 or 13. I want him to have the chance I never had - a chance to get out. Not that I wanted the chance, but you know what I mean..."
