"Thirteen?" Jhase supposed she shouldn't be surprised. She hadn't been much older than that when she had set out on her own. "He's old enough to take responsibility for his actions. How bruised do you want his ego, or shall I just take him on the ship, show him what he could get himself into? That age..." She shook her head. "Impossible to talk to."

Halna nodded. "I know he's old enough, but he shouldn't have to be. You know that's one of the few humanitarian things I'm all for is children having childhoods," Louvellu took a sip of her drink before continuing, "I just want you to capture him and bring him to me. None of my boys have been able to catch the little bugger. I want to talk to him."

Jhase raised her chin sharply, but turned the movement into a rather jerky nod. "Right. Yeah, you're all heart, really." She switched to her business face, retreating again behind the impassive mask. "Name, friends, known hangouts? And I can't say I'm exactly surprised that your people haven't succeeded. That saying about 'to catch a thief'? Rubbish. To catch a thief, you need a hunter." She sat back, a predatory smile playing across her lips. It had been a while since she'd had to (or indeed had wanted to) deliver her quarry undamaged, and this boy would prove a refreshing change.

Halna made a face at the 'heart' comment. "His name's Tarley Conan. As far as I know he works alone. No friends; no relations. He doesn't seem to have any vices - no drinking, partying. Sounds rather dull, doesn't he?" She noticed Jhase's brief emotional display, but kept it to herself.

"Hmmm. Interesting. Too young for all that, I guess. Ah well. He's got plenty of time to get just as jaded as we are." Jhase was thinking hard. If the boy had no apparent contacts, it might prove a bit more difficult, but when had she ever turned down a challenge? "How and when does he contact your organization?" She thought there was some way Halna kept track of her network of thieves, and she probably had it recorded in her files from... before, but it might have changed.

"Well, I'm hoping to keep him from getting as jaded as us," Halna replied dryly, "He's contacted us three times. Contacted me directly, actually. Bold little..." She trailed off before continuing, "The first time he sent me a data card that had a warning to keep an eye on my throne, or I might lose it. The second time, he had a bouquet delivered to my apartment - with nothing but dead flowers and weeds in it. The third time, he sent me a formal letter explaining in no uncertain terms that he planned to challenge me and offered me a chance to step down on my own."

Jhase's shoulders shook with silent laughter. "Force, the kid's got guts! I'm looking forward to meeting the little bugger. No records of where any of the stuff came from?" She'd be highly impressed if there wasn't. This Conan boy could turn out to be smarter than many adults she'd tracked.

"I have to admit, I admire his gumption. He kinda reminds me of me when I was challenging the King," Halna admitted with a grin, "Isn't the bouquet great? I was a teeny bit... annoyed, shall we say, when I got it, but in retrospect, it's very funny." She laughed before downing the rest of her drink.

Jhase nodded, smiling faintly. "Indeed. He's too clever for his own good by half, but if he learns discretion, what a man he could be!" She glanced idly at her wristplate, noting her blood alcohol level. She'd probably regret it in the morning if she ordered another ale, and the Outlander probably didn't serve shig anyway. She flagged down the server and ordered some caf. "Do you still have that card and letter? It might help me find him."

"Oh yes, he's much too clever for his own good. Which is why I want to knock some sense into the boy, which, in turn, is why I need you. Most of my, shall we say hired help is a bit messy. They don't know the meaning of subtlety and 'take him alive,'" Halna replied, "And, yes, I have the data card and the letter back home in my safe."

Jhase smirked. She knew the type that Louvellu called her "hired help", and she wouldn't trust a single one as far as she could drop-kick them. "Subtlety is my forte. I think we can strike a bargain. I find the boy, you find Paddie, and we'll all have a little party." She leaned back, resting her head on the wall behind her seat. "I'd tell you to have them sent over, but I'd rather handle this myself. I know if I was you, I wouldn't trust me with the location of my home, so how can you get them to me?"

Halna sighed deeply at the mention of Danny. "I can try to scrounge up his holonumber... I guess," she tried to dodge the obligation of possibly getting Danny in some serious trouble, but knew it would never work with Jhase, "No way you can fill me in on who wants to see him, huh?" She quirked an eyebrow at her old friend.
OOC: The fanfic sounds great!

Jhase almost smiled. "Sorry, but you know how it is," she said. She might have expected the question; Halna hadn't changed a bit. "Start breaking your rules, even for old friends, and the next thing you know, complete strangers will expect the same treatment. No, I can't tell you who wants the information, but I will see if they'll let me do the asking, if that'll make you feel better."
OOC: Thanks! ^_^ It was fun to get inside Jhase's head for longer than a few paragraphs at a time, and I think it helped me round out her character.

Halna shrugged noncommitally. "Well, you know I had to try. I don't mind, really, it's just that I don't like to get anyone I know - even distantly - in trouble. It doesn't bode well to turn your subjects over to their enemies. Not that Paddie's a subject, but you know what I mean. I like to extend the same courtesy to likeable acquaintances as to my subjects and friends."
OOC: It must have been fun!

Jhase nodded approvingly. "Mark of a good leader, that." She flashed a quick smile. "I don't know how you do it. I couldn't be nice to all those people for that long." OOC: Oh, quite.
