Jhase shook her head. "No, just coincidence. My parents named me Zace, actually, but there's no Z in Mando'a. Ijaat'buir had trouble pronouncing it in Basic, so he just called me the Mandalorian equivalent." She cocked her chin to one side. "And yes, Haln'ika, you are, aren't you? I'll keep that in mind if I ever run into him."

"I'm sure you'll meet up with him someday, my dear," Louvellu commented, "Someone'll make sure of it. Whether the meeting will be under friendly circumstances, though... That is the question!" She grinned jokingly.

Jhase raised one eyebrow and let the corner of her mouth curve up, revealing a slight dimple in her tanned cheek. "That is always the question, is it not? It will probably depend upon whether or not we're after the same bounty. Pity my field is so competitive... I can think of a few compatriots I'd rather not have had to- ah, inconvenience."
((The new skin looks great! Sorry I've taken so long, I was at camp for a week.))

"Oh, I can think of a few I've unfortunately had to do the same for. Such a shame. Some of them were fairly likeable. Some were idiots, but there's one in every crowd. Usually more like one likeable being it seems sometimes, though," Halna admitted regretfully.
OOC: Cacilya made the skin. Isn't it wonderful? Don't worry about being about away. Did you have a good time?

Jhase snorted. "Crowds are made of idiots. It's the ones with an iota of sense who are rare. And yes, idiocy can be quite endearing at times, but not when they don't listen and you have to shoot them anyway." She stared into her caf pensively, then sighed and looked back up. "But life goes on. For me, anyway, though I'm not so sure about a few of them... This was back before I got Kyram," she paused to pat the holster at her side affectionately, "so my aim- well, I was young and impetuous, and some people just don't understand the word 'no', even with a blaster in their face. Pity, really. He was rather likeable, and not bad-looking, either."
She was inwardly surprised at just how much Halna was still able to open her up. She hadn't even thought about that particular incident in ages... But she still had to be careful. Trust was a loaded blaster, and could be turned against you to devastating effect, as had been proved in their friendship.
((Yes, it's lovely! And I certainly did. It was my first year as a counselor, so that was interesting, but I had lots of fun.))

Halna raised an eyebrow and smirked pointedly. "What happened?" she asked in that quiet way, usually utilized by a best friend, that never fails to make someone spill all. She couldn't believe how much and how quickly the two had slipped back into their old habits of sarcastic jabs with underlying honesty. They used to be able to have heart-to-hearts without ever damaging their tough reputations because of the way they could read each other.

Jhase sighed and took a long sip of caf. Ah, why not? It couldn't hurt much- "It was several years ago, and my first solo job. Ijaat'buir had run across a contract that looked quick and easy, so he let me have it. I found the target on Nal Hutta, and he wasn't much older than I was, a silver-tongued gambler with a womanizing streak. He had gone after the wrong woman, and her owner wasn't happy about it. I stuck a blaster in his face, told him what I was there for, tied him up, and and marched him on board. It was before I got Twist of Fate, you understand, and I was flying a tiny little two-seater that one of Ijaat'buir's friends let me borrow. Well, he tried to talk me out of it, promised me the moons of Iego and anything else he could think of, and then he tried to seduce me. I told him to shut it before I got angry, but that kind doesn't listen to a skinny little girl. He wouldn't stop talking, so I got impatient and shot him. He wasn't so pretty anymore, and my bounty got docked since the contract had specified 'undamaged'. I don't know what happened to him. If I did kill him, it might have been doing him a favor... I just wish sometimes I knew. So yeah. Not my favorite memory."
She took another slug of caf and retreated back behind her impassive mask, remembering how freely she'd always been able to talk to Halna, and wondering if maybe, just maybe, it was worth another shot.

Halna stared silently into her mug and bit her lip before replying. "I'm sorry, Jhase. I remember my first failed job. Dad - Lou - had sent me into a little bank over in Coco Town to scope the place out. I was supposed to set up an account for myself, but instead of using either an alias or 'Halna Louvellu,' I used 'Halna Ufivian.' This was right after he had adopted me, and I was still busying flaunting it, mind you. Anyways, the teller at the window recognized the name from a news report he had read earlier that day and he got me talking while I was waiting. I let Lou's name slip, and he pushed the button for security. When they came out for me, I panicked and pulled my blaster. I shot my way out and later had to nurse some of them back to health at the hospital. It was an apt punishment, I guess," she poured the whole story out to her ex-best friend, wondering if 'ex' could be a variable all the while.

"Poetic justice," Jhase murmured, wincing in commiseration. "I hate having to shoot my way out, and with civvies around! Must have been rough. It's a wonder none of them recognized you later."
What is wrong with me? I haven't talked to anyone like this since- well, since last time we had a drink at the Outlander. Getting soft in my old age or something... None of Jhase's racing thoughts showed on her face as she drained her mug and waved for a refill. She did wonder, though... Halna was a consummate actress, but Jhase was equally, if not more, experienced at seeing though acts. Maybe she was telling the truth about that whole unfortunate incident, and she'd pinned the blame for deliberate betrayal on the wrong party.

"Well, with my mask on at the hospital it's pretty hard to tell. That's probably the only thing that's saved me whenever I've had cops around," Halna laughed softly.
Halna wondered idly if she should let Jhase's previous indescretions, (or maybe they hadn't actually been her indescretions...), go. She could use a friend in Jhase's line of work and it would be nice to have someone to talk and laugh with again.

Jhase raised an amused eyebrow, nodding. "A mask- or helmet- is certainly a handy thing to have at times. Lucky for you that behind that hospital mask is about the last place security would look for someone of your particular qualifications. And looking like an unimpressive girl doesn't hurt either. Saved my life a few times, I know." She took a careful sip of the fresh caf, relaxing her guard slightly.

Halna laughed. "Being the first female leader definitely threw the cops for a loop. They were still out looking for Lou and I was pulling first-rate jobs right under their noses. Of course, they caught on eventually, it just took them a while."

Jhase smirked slightly. "I love shattering men's illusions. They make such a great noise." She sipped at her caf, enjoying the biting warmth. "I had nearly the same sort of situation when I first started. The few who recognize the name Mereel will, of course, immediately think of Jaster, which comes in handy when you're trying to intimidate. And it's not my fault that Jhase, over a bad comm connection, can be mistaken for Jaster..." She assumed an innocent expression that probably wouldn't fool anyone, much less one who knew her as well as Halna had. "And of course, by the time the target realizes his mistake, he's staring down Kyram's barrel and it's a bit too late." She patted the Verpine shatter gun by her side, looking smug.

Halna chuckled. "Oh, they do, don't they? So ridiculous. It's as if they think we either need protection, romance, or we're weak." For some reason, as the word 'romance' slipped from Halna's lips her thoughts turned towards Danny. She worried about the meeting she had promised Jhase with him. Would he be hurt? Threatened? Blackmailed? Bribed? Seduced, maybe? None of the thoughts were appealing, but Halna felt an irrational anger rising at the latter idea.

Jhase snorted irreverently. "Protection? Oh, that's rich. We're probably the two people in this club who need protection the least. And don't even get me started on romance." She curled her lip. "I find it absolutely fascinating how the men who are least suited for a relationship with you are always the ones who try to get involved in one." She sipped reflectively at her caf. "Of course, the reverse is true, and the few men you might actually want to get involved with aren't the least bit interested in you."
