Halna forced a smirk to her lips and fiddled with her glass. "Yes. That's... true," she said haltingly, "Of course, I wouldn't know much about the subject." She cleared her throat anxiously. "I've always been unlucky in love," she admitted with a shrug.

Jhase raised a sympathetic eyebrow. "Ah. Well." She took a sip of caf. "Can't help you much there, I'm afraid. I've never had enough patience to have any kind of luck at all in love, good or bad. But don't worry about it. You're still young. Plenty of time left to find the right man." She gave a short laugh. "But listen to me! We're both still young. Love can wait."

Halna shook her head in disagreement. "But can it really? In our lines of work, we never know whether we'll see the next dawn or not," she commented, her Corellian accent slipping through a bit, "Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever get to have a normal life like the rest of the galaxy. Sure, I like my life. I like the excitement, the adventure. But underneath the evening gown and the hidden blasters, I'm just like everyone else. I want a husband someday. Maybe even kids!" Halna smiles slightly, but catches herself. "That's a big maybe, of course," she tacked on, downing the last of her drink.

Jhase frowned thoughtfully, shrugging. "For you, maybe. For me, underneath the armor and the blaster rifle is a woman who's had far too much practice being the intimidating presence behind the helmet to ever take it off for any but a very special man indeed." And maybe it's dar'manda of me, but I don't really even want a husband or kids. Ijaat'buir is the only man I've ever really liked and respected, and I don't particularly expect to find another one.

Louvellu pursed her lips in thought. "I guess for me it's just that I want to be able to have what my mother couldn't. Kind of repaying her for everything she did for me, you know? After all, she deserves grandkids, even if she'll never meet them," Halna said with a small smile. Once again her thoughts turned to Danny. She wondered if he liked kids. The subject had never come up, but now that she thought about it, she realized how silly the idea was. Of course Danny liked kids! He was always talking about his niece on Alderaan. He even carried a mini holo of her in his wallet. Halna smirked to herself at the thought.

Jhase nodded slowly. "I can see that. I can't remember my biological parents, so..." Her voice trailed off. Grandkids... The thought had never crossed her mind. It wasn't an entirely comfortable thought, either... She didn't want to be responsible for a small, pink, shrieking life form, and couldn't afford to be, anyway. It was all she could do sometimes to keep herself alive, and adding the stress and responsibility of having a kid to that- No. She fidgeted, trying to figure out a way to change the subject tactfully.

Halna noticed Jhase's discomfort and chuckled. "Sorry Jhase. I know it's a bit of an uncomfortable topic for people like you and me. How about... those new blasters! Much safer ground, and I've been meaning to ask someone about them. Have you tried them out yet? I don't know if they would fit on me. Under a gown, I mean," she smoothly changed the subject, if only to avoid having Jhase leave. For some reason it was very nice to talk to someone like this again.

Jhase relaxed, infinitely relieved at Halna's diplomacy. "And a subject I know a great deal about! The new BlasTech holdout pistol? Yeah, I invested in one last week. They've modified the alloy slightly so that it's lighter and stronger, and it's much less likely to overheat if you get in a tight spot. I don't know anything about evening gowns," she paused, smirking slightly, "but it's a lovely little piece. I'll- I'll bring it, when we meet with Paddie, shall I?"

Halna's entire demeanor changed as they switched topics. She listened intently, obviously trying to imagine the little blaster exactly as Jhase was describing it. She smirked at Jhase's comment about evening gowns, but her face almost imperceptibly tightened at the mention of Danny. She swallowed hard as she nodded, "Yes, that'd be wonderful. Thank you."

"No problem." Jhase noticed the slight twitch of the other woman's lips at her mention of Paddie. Hmm... Not quite as disinterested as we pretend, are we? But that could wait. She was enjoying the first civilized conversation she'd had in ages that didn't involve business... "Speaking of," she said casually, "where would you like to meet? Here is a fairly good place to be unobtrusive... Just a young man taking his girl out for the evening, and they run into an old friend." She hadn't quite meant to set Halna up like that, but she'd see how she reacted...

Halna's sabaac face slid into place as she said, "Sure, that'd be great. Do you want me to call him right now? It'll just take a second." She figured the quick switch from emotionally attached to sending him to the wolves would be likely to throw her old friend off the scent. No pun intended. You know, wolves, scent... Anyways, this way she might get to meet Jhase's client herself. "Oh, will we be meeting with you, your client, or both?"

"That would be most convenient. See when I can work you and him into my busy schedule and all..." Jhase's ironic tone was a cover for her calculations. Halna might be trying to hide something, and she might have succeeded with anyone, but Jhase was an experienced student of human nature. She would stake her second-best sniper rifle against a vibroblade that Halna wasn't as cool toward Paddie as she pretended. That could be... unfortunate... for both of them, should her client discover that Paddie was attached to someone.
"I'll see what my client wants to know and see if it can be arranged that I ask the questions, if that makes you feel better. I know how protective you are of your people," she answered, "and you... know me."

"Oh, I don't mind if we meet with your client. After all, they're the one that wants to see Paddie. They ought to be able to get their money's worth, no matter how comfortable I feel. Besides, he isn't one of my people. Just an acquaintance," she reached into her purse and pulled a tube of lipstick and a compact out, "How did you link him to me anyway?"

Jhase raised a skeptical eyebrow. "Ah good then. My client will be... most pleased." She took a sip of caf, now certain that Halna was trying to throw her off track. "To you? Oh, I have many contacts, as you well know. One of them has seen you two together. I must admit, I didn't expect to run into you tonight, but when I did..." She shrugged. "I didn't get to where I am now by not taking advantage of golden opportunities."

"Seen us together? Where?" Halna kept her voice very even and normal out of habit, but the gears were turning in her head. Who could it have been? Not Lavinia. She'd never get mixed up with someone like Jhase. She'd never get mixed up with someone like me if she knew who I was, Halna thought.
