Jhase shrugged. "Didn't ask. It was a thin lead at best, but it got me what I wanted." She spoke carelessly on purpose, hoping to perhaps startle another tiny reaction from the other woman that would confirm her suspicions. Still, she had thought Halna above all such entanglements... If the Queen of Thieves herself was not safe, then she, Jhase, had better keep a close watch on her own feelings. Not, of course, that she already didn't, but she typically didn't need to either. But that was one road she wasn't ready to travel yet.

"Kreth, don't look at me like that, Jhase. I was just wondering," Halna admonished slightly, "There's no need to worry." She shook her head and twirled her now empty glass in her hands. Perhaps she should keep an eye on Jhase for a while. Find out what was up. Who her contacts were. Might prove useful in the not-so-distant future. After all, the last thing she needed was one of her people narking to a bounty hunter - even one who was a past friend.

Jhase smirked slightly. "No worries. I'm actually surprised you haven't asked which of my contacts it was... Not that I'd tell you anyway." She was fairly sure she knew what Halna was thinking... But Halna's people were remarkably close-mouthed, and there were easier, if not exactly more accurate, ways of getting information. Not that any of Jhase's contacts would try to lie to her on purpose. Not any more, anyway... She pushed that particular memory away and sipped at her quickly cooling caf. She didn't really want another mug, but she did want to continue the conversation, and staying right here was the best way to keep fairly safe while she did. Although Halna might not bear a grudge any more, one never knew, and Jhase wanted to keep a wall at her back just in case.

"I figured you wouldn't tell me, so I decided not to waste my breath," Halna grinned. She looked thoughtfully at her glass. "I really shouldn't get another one." There was a pause before she called the nearest waitress over. "Refill," she gestured to the glass as she handed it over, "It's a good thing I'm not a crazy drunk," she smirked casually to Jhase, knowing she would remember that one time they'd both knocked back 5 or 6 too many...

Jhase snorted, sure she knew what Halna was alluding to. "That one time... Your lifeday or something, wasn't it? Force." She put a hand to her forehead. "Wasn't that the time I tried to teach you how to do Dha Werda Verda and you ended up giving me a bloody lip by accident?" The ancient Mandalorian battle chant was accompanied by a carefully choreographed percussion beaten out on one's neighbor's armor, and had to be performed very carefully indeed to avoid accidental smacks in the face. Needless to say, one young woman trying to teach it to another after both had had more drinks than were good for them was a recipe for disaster.
"And then I blacked your eye, so we're square." Jhase grinned crookedly, displaying a dimple in one lean cheek. "Haven't thought about that night in forever. Haven't had that much fun since then, either."

"Yeah, that was the time, " Halna said with a laugh, "I don't think it was a lifeday, though." Her thoughtful pause ended abruptly with a remembering, "Oh. Oh yes." She chuckled lightly and covered her smirk with a cupped hand. "Yes, I remember now. It wasn't a lifeday... it was my bloody coronation! Force, that was the best party anyone's ever thrown me. Lou sure knew how to live, didn't he?"

"Didn't he though?" The corners of Jhase's mouth curved up into the first real, unguarded smile she'd given that night. "I do remember that now. Best party I've ever been to. And that ridiculous flimsi tiara someone gave you. You wore the stupid thing all night, didn't you?" She shook her head, grinning. "At least, until I stepped on it by accident..."

The Queen pouted a bit at the memory. "I loved that silly thing! It was cheap and flimsy and it glittered. Besides, I was so drunk that night I probably thought it was real Alderaanian crystals," Halna's eyes sparkled as she grinned at her own stupidity. Sometimes it was good to do that, she knew.

Jhase matched the grin. "What, the Queen of Thieves ever not be able to recognize real Alderaanian crystal? Never. You just have simple tastes. And it got glitter all over your head." She ran a hand through her own short hair and gave a short laugh. "At least I know what to get you next lifeday."

"I was drunk, Jhase. Very drunk. Don't you go spreadin' rumors about me there," Halna scoldingly shook her finger at the bounty hunter, "That's the very, very last thing I need. Although the lifeday gift would be nice." She paused a moment before admitting that last.

Jhase laid an offended hand on her chestplates. "Me, spread rumors? Halna, you wound me. You of all people should know I abhor gossip." Her mock-sanctimonious expression was replaced by a sly smirk. "All right then, a flimsi tiara- lots of glitter- and one crate of Corellian whiskey. Don't be surprised if I show up on your doorstep one evening. And I'll take the first drink, just to prove I'm not trying to poison you. Again." Her light tone belied the sting of the words, although she was still slightly resentful that her one-time friend could have suspected her of such a breach of trust, even if she thought that friend had tried to betray her first.

Halna skipped any comments about gossip to get right to the heart of the matter. "Again? So you admit it then. Or was that just a jab at my 'paranoia' as you called it." She made air quotes as she spat out the word 'paranoia.' Even as the words came out of her mouth though, she wanted to bite them back in. "I'm sorry, Jhase. Old habits - and grudges - die hard. I don't really think you tried to kill me. It was just one of those really bad times in my life when nothing else was going right, so why should my friendships? You know what I mean?"

Jhase sighed. "Fierfek, Halna, don't lecture me about grudges. Ill-chosen words, maybe. Yes, I was joking, and I'm-" She stopped, taking a deep breath. "I'm sorry. I know exactly what you mean." She smiled crookedly. "Neither one of us was having the time of our lives just then, were we?" She was inwardly surprised at herself. She hadn't been that open with anyone, ever... But it felt right, somehow, even cloaked in light sarcasm.

A small smile appeared on Halna's face. "I missed you," her grin widened as she spoke, "And I promise I didn't try to kill you either." She chuckled a little bit, remembering how Jhase had torn her speeder radio out with a vibroblade, thinking the annoying beeping was due to a bomb she had placed there.

Jhase's lopsided smile widened into a genuine grin. "Well, now that we've established that we're not mortal enemies after all..." She took a sip of caf, making a face at the now-cold mug. "I think I know what you're thinking, and I'm still not sure I'm amused." She raised an ironic eyebrow. "Took me quite a few credits to repair the damage to my dashboard. Oh well, I had wanted to upgrade my sound system anyway..." She winked roguishly, running a finger along the knife sheathed in her vambrace.
