"Well it wasn't my fault you decided to take a vibroblade to it," Halna matched Jhase's raised eyebrow with a crooked smile, "What did you replace it with? That new one with the backseat controls? Or the remote? I wanted the remote one, but everybody said it was a stupid expense when my speeder would probably get blown up soon anyways." She shrugged casually, as if speeders blowing up were entirely commonplace.

Jhase snorted. "Halna, in my line of work the people typically sitting in my back seat have more important things to worry about than whether or not they agree with my taste in music. I got the voice-activated one, actually, and it's programmed to recognize my voice only." She grinned wickedly. "Be funny to watch the new owners try and change the channel, if I ever sell it."
She raised a sympathetic eyebrow. "Now that is a pity. But really, when have you ever listened to what everybody said? I hear there's a small remote adapter, not too pricey, that you can get. Just unplug and stick it in a pocket when you get out, and there's your problem solved."

Halna laughed at the mental image of the potential new speeder owners. "Well, I don't usually, but this time it made too much sense. However, I hadn't heard about that adapter... I just might have to try that out! You know, the last time I listened to everybody was way back when I decided to take that place over on 4th street. You remember that? They had these advanced alarm systems my crew didn't find? Ooh, I was furious. I think I might have even actually got arrested. That's only happened, what? 3 times?"

Jhase leaned her chin on a hand, trying to remember. "Hmm... Not really, but it does sound slightly familiar. I was probably on a job at the time, and you told me about it later." Her brow furrowed, then cleared. "Wait, was that- it'd be about... year and a half ago? The very exclusive jewelry store? Yeah. I was after that one scumball for Gardulla the Hutt."

"Yeah, that was the place," Halna nodded in disgusted agreement, "Of course, if you ask me, Gardulla's a bit of a scumball his- hers- itself. I will never get used that whole hermaphrodite thing! It's just creepy!!" She shuddered under her breath before adding, "And I've seen many a creepy thing in my day." The Queen grimaced a bit as she remembered some of the scarier experiences she'd had.
OOC: I don't think I spelled 'hermaphrodite' right...

Jhase shrugged. "I don't like Hutts much myself, but the credits are good." She raised an eyebrow, completely straightfaced. "And my helmet helps the smell immensely." She smirked, alluding to one particular time she and Halna had had dealings with a certain young and ambitious Hutt, Halna in her official capacity as Queen and Jhase as- supposedly- her bodyguard. Thankfully, Jhase had been able to keep her buy'ce on the whole time...
OOC: I've no idea XD Oh well.

She couldn't help but gag at the memory. "Ugh. That was awful. That thing stunk like a tauntaun's inards rotting in the sun. And you, lucky nerfherder, had that on the whole time!" Halna gestured to the buy'ce sitting on the seat beside Jhase. She mock glared, pretending to actually be mad about the event, but knew she wasn't succeeding. Laughing at her efforts, she took a sip of her now-cold drink.

Jhase smiled, patting the scarred dome of the helmet affectionately. "Hey, just one of the many perks of being Mandalorian... I can only imagine what it must've been like for you." She made a face, remembering. "I could still smell it even through my air filter. I don't know how anyone manages being that close to one without losing their last meal. But it turned out to be worth it, yeah?"

"Oh, yes, it definitely turned out to be worth it! The Court nailed his collection of rare antiques and we sold it on the circuit for twice what they were worth without ever raising suspicions. It was brilliant. I was so proud!" Halna's grin reflected her love of her job, even if it did put her on the wrong side of the law at times. Well, most of the time. Okay, fine. all of the time.

Jhase nodded thoughtfully. "Antiques, was it? Looked like a pile of junk to me... But whatever." She flashed a sudden smile. "So long as I get my payoff, you could tell me it was a collection of bolo-ball trophies and I wouldn't care. But even with my admittedly limited experience, that was a particularly fine job. Your people are true artists." Not that most people would agree with that statement... But Jhase, considering herself quite a connoisseur of lawbreaking and -bending, had to admit that Halna's people were masters at their work.

"Yes, they were antiques, and expensive ones at that. And, yes, my people are true artists. Not that I'm bragging or anything," Halna put in immodestly. She had been so proud of that job that she had spent the money on something special for each person in her court. A new speeder for Tola, a shopping spree at the Coruscant Plaza for Jani, a whole new set of kitchen knives for Resmot, an interior designer for Kali's apartment. Things they had all really wanted but hadn't been able to afford. Being a thief meant that you had a lot of cash one day and the next you were struggling to make ends meet.

A sarcastic grin tugged at the corner of Jhase's mouth. "Of course," she replied, suppressing it and taking a sip of her rapidly-cooling caf. "You are the very picture of modesty, and the soul of discretion. And that's not even to mention your generosity..." She trailed off. "But who am I to tell you what you already know?" she finished, smiling sardonically. She remembered how much Halna hated it when anyone heaped extravagant praise on her.

"Generous, maybe, the other two I could care less about," Halna quipped flippantly. She grit her teeth, knowing Jhase was only trying to get under her skin. Praise had always made her uncomfortable even when she knew it was given a bit sarcastically. At a sudden vibration in her pocket she nearly jumped out of her skin. Biting her lip she pulled out her comm and flicked it on. "Hello?" she answered it. Danny's voice cut through her quagmire of thoughts instantly. "Hey, Halna, you want to grab something to eat? I've got some free time before I have to be at another of Dad's boring parties." "Oh, uh, hi, John. I'm kind of busy at the moment, can I call you back in a little while?" she covered. "Um, sure... I guess?" Danny sounded disappointed, but he at least half-understood. Halna smiled fakely. "All right. Talk to you soon. Bye." She hung up and set the comm on the table beside her. "I suppose I might as well call Mr. Paddie while I've got this thing out, huh? What do you want me to tell him?"

Jhase raised an eyebrow as Halna set the comm down. "I recognize that fake smile. Who were you trying to get rid of? Does 'John' liiiiiiiike you?" she asked, her voice taking on an annoyingly sing-song tone for the last phrase. She could never quite resist poking a little good-natured mockery at her friend.
"And yeah, tell him an old friend of yours wants to ask him a few questions, and is he free one night this week. Or you could give me his comm code, and I'll handle it," she suggested, wondering how Halna might take that idea. If she refused... Well, old grudges died hard, but Jhase still had the feeling that Paddie meant a little more to her old friend than she pretended.

Halna flipped her eyes around in a perfected eyeroll. "Yeah, and he won't leave me alone, it seems," she replied, "No, that's all right, I'll do it. Besides, he doesn't usually pick up the comm if he doesn't recognize the number." Realizing how that comment could be construed, she bit her lip. She quickly picked up her own comm and began scrolling through her contacts, hoping to find his name before Jhase could reply.
